Abstract

Exhaust emission regulations for road motor vehicles lay down harmonized rules for the construction of motor vehicles to ensure the functioning of the internal market while at the same time providing for a high level of environmental protection regarding atmospheric emissions. European Union citizens are still concerned about the risks to human health and the environment that results from air pollution. Although air quality has improved over the past decade, there are still significant air quality problems throughout the European Union, especially in urban areas and in densely populated regions. The introduction of exhaust emission regulations and the gradual tightening aims to poor air quality and its harmful effects on human health would otherwise be still a problem the European Union.
