AUTOMATED CONTAINER TERMINALS

Abstract

Container terminals of sea ports have implemented the different methods because of the increase of their throughput. One of these methods is based on the automation of handling processes. The basic advantages of this method are especially the increase of the number of handled containers, the reduction of accommodation of a vessel in the port, the accident rates, the number of port workers and their salaries. At the present there are only a few automated container terminals in the world. These terminals differ from one another in the level of automation or handling equipment.
